Baby Boomers – Want A Change?
By Eileen Hebert

Those of us born during the wonderful time period that allows us to call ourselves Baby Boomers are tired.  We’re tired of working for someone else, seeing them get the glory and the financial advantages associated with being the business owner.  We’re tired of living up to unrealistic expectations.  We are ready for a change.  We want control of our time, money, and we want more freedom to make decisions about the way we manage our lifestyle.

Some of us dream of the day we can retire from our 9 – 5 j-o-b so that we can pursue our true calling.  But some of us do not want to wait that long.  Instead, we want that vision to become a reality now.  We have pursued a traditional career, most of us have raised children, some of us are assisting our aging parents --- we are simply ready for more control over our lives.  We need more control and less stress.

Many Baby Boomers have struggled throughout the years to conform to meet the standards set by an employer.  We’ve met unrealistic expectations related to giving up time with friends and family, we’ve worked when we were physically not able and we have received little recognition for it.  It’s time to make a change.

Whether we decide to reach retirement age first or not is up to the individual.  But as a whole, Baby Boomers are ready now to take their future into their own hands and create the lifestyle they’ve dreamed about.

By starting a business of their own Baby Boomers are able to work the hours they choose – leaving time for important things like grandchildren, caring for elderly parents, pursuing hobbies, and having fun!  Many ingenious Baby Boomers have found ways to incorporate hobbies into a business.  By doing so they do not feel they are working, but instead they are doing something that they love, they are enjoying themselves!

Very often a new business venture is built around a hobby or craft.  This may be a hobby that the new business owner had longed to do during those long years that he/she was employed by others.   The hobby interest had been postponed due to time constraints.  In order to maintain the honorable work ethics of this generation and attend to family and home obligations time could not be found to pursue pleasurable hobbies.

Those times are changing.  Baby Boomers are taking control of their futures.  It is becoming increasingly more common for Baby Boomers to leave the corporate world behind in order to seek the job of their dreams.  More often than not, this dream job consists of working from the home in a business based around a special interest.

Working in a home based business provides the individual an opportunity to achieve success and make the salary necessary to purchase the things that matter most to them.  But perhaps most importantly, this provides the individuals the freedom to govern their own time!  Time is a priceless commodity, it is precious.

Eileen,
I really enjoyed our session. All the ideas you had for me will defiantly help my business grow and establish me as an expert in my field. You have really encouraged me and inspired me to be creative and to think of so many ways I can generate more business. I have already used one of the ideas you gave me and am working on so many more. This past holiday weekend we had the best week at the store since it has opened and I know it is a direct cause of applying what we discussed.  I would definitely encourage anyone who needs some great advice and direction to work with you.  Please use my testimonial to encourage others. Thank you for your help.

Dear Eileen,
More was gained from my 90 minute consultation than from years of wading and wandering through the available information attempting to find a plan.  I felt understood as a unique individual.  The information and ideas learned were both inspiring and practical regarding opportunities I'd already wondered about plus many more I'd never considered.  There is clarity in the immediate steps I'm now taking doing things that I enjoy plus I learned of many resources I hadn't known existed to look into during the coming weeks and months.  Now, I have the beginnings of a flexible, workable plan and the awareness that I really can create the life I want to live and have the means to support that life.

Hi Eileen,
What a great idea! It's fresh and new and definitely has a lot of potential. I've never heard of anyone doing anything like that. And my husband could help me with the business cards as we have a computer program for that. Yes, I would definitely have to get a portfolio put together. Hmmm......there are a lot of possibilities with this idea. Thanks so much for the suggestion. I will definitely think about it. :-)
