Blogging For Money
By Eileen Hebert

Search on a phrase like "blog home based business" and you might be surprised to discover that there are many marketers running home based businesses blogging for money. A blog is a pre-designed (although customizable) website that is ideal for facilitating an informal, online journal. You can run a blog using a free service or free software. Updating it with new content can be as easy as typing in new text. And because of some of the inherent features of blogs, it is eminently possible to be blogging as a business.

There are several key advantages that blogs have over regular websites. For one thing, whether you use a blogging service or use blogging software, it is generally easier and quicker to get a blog up and running than a normal site. What's more, the search engines tend to be more responsive to a blog when it changes (i.e. adds fresh) content, which can lead to higher search engine rankings over time. In fact, if you were to search on "blog home based business" or something similar you may see a number of blogs come up in the results. Also, you can add all kinds of "plug ins" and blog "widgets" that can, among other things, notify certain other websites when you upload new content. And that's not to mention allowing individuals to subscribe to what is called an RSS feed, which lets them know when you have added a new post to your blog. All of this means more visitors to your blog... and if you can convert those visitors into opt-ins or customers... it ultimately means that you make money blogging.

In terms of how to blog in order to earn revenue, you can do one or more of a few things. You might integrate your blog into your regular sales website, so that readers can easily visit your product or services pages. Otherwise, you might include highly informative, enlightening content on your blog which features links to your other websites. If you prove yourself to be a source of helpful free advice, readers are likely to be interested in the information or products/services you sell.

You can also make money blogging by running advertisements and affiliate offers on your blog. You might join an affiliate and/or cost-per-action (CPA) network where you get paid when someone clicks on an ad you offer, or when they order a product or service to which you refer your readers. And these are just SOME of the ways you can be blogging for money.

To make sure your blog is cost-effective there are a few rules of thumb to keep in mind. To start with, you are well advised to ensure your posts contain quality, helpful advice or ideas. You should also get into the habit of adding fresh content to your blog every few days, or at least, once a week. Finally, it's a good idea to discard the standard formatting that "out-of-the-box" blogs come with. You will both stand out and look more professional if your blog has its own unique graphical look. That doesn't mean YOU have to play around with the blog software yourself - you can hire someone to give your blog the appearance you want.

There are a number of ways you can make money blogging. I would encourage you to think about what blog home business model might suit you best. Providing you have the commitment necessary to periodically add new posts to your blog... what are you waiting for? It's time to get that blog up and running!

Eileen,
I really enjoyed our session. All the ideas you had for me will defiantly help my business grow and establish me as an expert in my field. You have really encouraged me and inspired me to be creative and to think of so many ways I can generate more business. I have already used one of the ideas you gave me and am working on so many more. This past holiday weekend we had the best week at the store since it has opened and I know it is a direct cause of applying what we discussed.  I would definitely encourage anyone who needs some great advice and direction to work with you.  Please use my testimonial to encourage others. Thank you for your help.

Dear Eileen,
More was gained from my 90 minute consultation than from years of wading and wandering through the available information attempting to find a plan.  I felt understood as a unique individual.  The information and ideas learned were both inspiring and practical regarding opportunities I'd already wondered about plus many more I'd never considered.  There is clarity in the immediate steps I'm now taking doing things that I enjoy plus I learned of many resources I hadn't known existed to look into during the coming weeks and months.  Now, I have the beginnings of a flexible, workable plan and the awareness that I really can create the life I want to live and have the means to support that life.

Hi Eileen,
What a great idea! It's fresh and new and definitely has a lot of potential. I've never heard of anyone doing anything like that. And my husband could help me with the business cards as we have a computer program for that. Yes, I would definitely have to get a portfolio put together. Hmmm......there are a lot of possibilities with this idea. Thanks so much for the suggestion. I will definitely think about it. :-)
