Fire Your Boss!
By Eileen Hebert

Making a career choice is not an easy undertaking.  Many things should be considered.  Some people begin by checking out the potential salary ranges and the job market projections.  Many people use potential salaries as the only deciding factor when making career decisions.

The next step is often acquiring any education or skills needed in order to pursue the given career choice.  After making whatever sacrifices are required the individual usually obtains a position in the field of their choice, however the pathway that leads them there is sometimes longer than anticipated.

Although most individuals with drive and motivation will succeed they may still find that the chosen career is not what they expected.  Perhaps it is unrealistic but most of us imagine that if we get that job of our dreams – you know, the one we worked to get(?) – we will be happy and fulfilled.  The problem is that very often that is not the result.

Rather than finding happiness and fulfillment we very often find that we are struggling to keep up.  From all outward appearances we are the vision of success.  We have a great salary, we have a job title that many envy and we have status.  But if one looks closer they are likely to find an individual that is struggling to keep up with the demands of a fast-paced career and the obligations of a family and home, not to mention the pursuit of time to spend doing the things that are enjoyable in life.

Ultimately the vision of success may be concealing a miserable person.  This person may dream of a time that he/she can schedule work around the things he/she wants to do in life.  He/she may fantasize about quitting this “wonderful career” in order to find happiness.  What stops them?  Many people associate quitting a job with risk.  Fear holds many people back from the success that is waiting for them.

Quitting a job does not have to be a risk-taking adventure.  However, it probably should be pointed out that most entrepreneurs are risk-takers.  But to keep risks at a minimum many people begin a home-based business before they actually leave their security – their 9 – 5 j-o-b.

By establishing a home-based business early and building it before giving up the security of a regular paycheck many people are able to “Fire Their Boss” without feeling fearful of failure.  Proper planning can alleviate much of the stress and frustration associated with starting a new business.  If you are miserable (due to a poor or less than well-suited career choice) perhaps you should consider making plans for the future now.

You can continue to hide behind your “success” on the j-o-b or you can begin taking steps now that will ensure a fuller and happier life for you tomorrow.  Begin preparation for “Firing Your Boss” and taking control of your time.  Begin with something you love – build a business around that.  Your work will then be enjoyable.  You will create your work schedule to fit your life.  This will lead to less stress and less stress will lead to increased happiness.  It’s a wonderful cycle

Eileen,
I really enjoyed our session. All the ideas you had for me will defiantly help my business grow and establish me as an expert in my field. You have really encouraged me and inspired me to be creative and to think of so many ways I can generate more business. I have already used one of the ideas you gave me and am working on so many more. This past holiday weekend we had the best week at the store since it has opened and I know it is a direct cause of applying what we discussed.  I would definitely encourage anyone who needs some great advice and direction to work with you.  Please use my testimonial to encourage others. Thank you for your help.

Dear Eileen,
More was gained from my 90 minute consultation than from years of wading and wandering through the available information attempting to find a plan.  I felt understood as a unique individual.  The information and ideas learned were both inspiring and practical regarding opportunities I'd already wondered about plus many more I'd never considered.  There is clarity in the immediate steps I'm now taking doing things that I enjoy plus I learned of many resources I hadn't known existed to look into during the coming weeks and months.  Now, I have the beginnings of a flexible, workable plan and the awareness that I really can create the life I want to live and have the means to support that life.

Hi Eileen,
What a great idea! It's fresh and new and definitely has a lot of potential. I've never heard of anyone doing anything like that. And my husband could help me with the business cards as we have a computer program for that. Yes, I would definitely have to get a portfolio put together. Hmmm......there are a lot of possibilities with this idea. Thanks so much for the suggestion. I will definitely think about it. :-)
