Hate Your Job?
By Eileen Hebert
Millions of Americans hate their jobs. If you ask them they will tell you that they are unhappy with their pay, with their boss, with the work
conditions, with their hours, with the job expectations, etc., etc., etc.
How did they get in this situation?
Why did they pursue a job/career in which they would not be happy? Is it possible that they
didn’t know what was ahead when they made this career choice?
Let’s take this one step at a time.
Why are people unhappy with their pay? Is it because it is less than they want or is it because
they know they will never make what they want in that particular job? In other words, would a
person be willing to accept a smaller salary for a period of time if they felt that salary would increase over time? When asked most people said yes, accepting a smaller salary for a period of time was acceptable if a greater
salary was indeed possible.
Why are most people dissatisfied with their bosses? Is it because they don’t want to be controlled or is it because the boss is a jerk? Let’s face it, some bosses are jerks! And, most of us don’t want
to be controlled.
As far as the work conditions go, most of us would prefer to work in the same or
similar conditions to our home. We want to be and feel safe and comfortable.
Although some people consider themselves night people, others are morning people
and still others are mid-dayers. Whichever an individual is, he/she is more alert and responsive
during those particular hours. Each of us will be more productive if we are working during the
time that we are more alert.
During a hiring process there is usually a discussion about the job duties and
responsibilities. One problem that often arises is that over time new expectations are added with
little or no regard for the individual’s abilities. This can lead to unrealistic job
expectations.
With these explanations it is easy to understand why so many people hate their
jobs but what can be done about it. Working day after day at a job one hates must lead to
frustration and unhappiness.
So how can one overcome all of this? The solution is so simple. Start Your Own Business! You will have unlimited earning
potential, you will be your own boss, you will design your working conditions, you will set the hours and you will decide what you can do
and what must be outsourced. This is the dream job!
