How To Find Meaningful Work
By Eileen Hebert

Some of us have goals in life that we feel are perhaps not necessarily a choice but rather a duty.   This may be related to a family trait that we are trying to overcome, a burden of society that we were born into, or many other possible life situations.

After deciding on a particular life goal the mission to accomplish it can become an obsession.  Some people will stop at nothing to achieve their goal.  They feel this is the reason they were put here on earth.  Perhaps they are the lucky ones.  They know which way to go, which path to follow.  At the very least they know where they want to end up.

These people have meaningful work – their life is built around accomplishing goals set early in life.  They work with a sense of purpose and their drive comes from within.

Other people decide on a career path based on what is available to them or based on what job might pay more than another.  These people tend to work hard to achieve advancements along the way.  Most follow the rules and strive for job recognition and status.

People that make such career choices often have low job morale and motivation may also be less than hoped for by employers.  Therefore, employers are often forced to provide incentives as motivators – hoping to make the work more meaningful to employees.

Most people have hobbies or at least topics of interest….this includes people in every walk of life.  Many people spend every available spare moment devoted to such areas of interest.  Research and surveys have shown that hobbies are great stress relievers.

Hobbies can relieve stress by taking one’s mind out of the present tense and into one of another world.  Whether one is a doctor or a homemaker, the stresses of life are bound to be overwhelming at times.  By allowing us to forget current stressors, if even for a few moments, hobbies can be very beneficial.

So what do hobbies and career choices have in common?  Nothing, unless you combine the two!!!!  Consider that.  Wouldn’t “work” be awesome if you were doing whatever it is that you consider your favorite hobby?

This is not an impossible dream!  This is becoming the reality for more and more people everyday and it can be your reality too!!!!  Decide what it is that you love doing.  Decide how you can build a business around that.  Then, in the words of Nike, “Just Do It”!

Eileen,
I really enjoyed our session. All the ideas you had for me will defiantly help my business grow and establish me as an expert in my field. You have really encouraged me and inspired me to be creative and to think of so many ways I can generate more business. I have already used one of the ideas you gave me and am working on so many more. This past holiday weekend we had the best week at the store since it has opened and I know it is a direct cause of applying what we discussed.  I would definitely encourage anyone who needs some great advice and direction to work with you.  Please use my testimonial to encourage others. Thank you for your help.

Dear Eileen,
More was gained from my 90 minute consultation than from years of wading and wandering through the available information attempting to find a plan.  I felt understood as a unique individual.  The information and ideas learned were both inspiring and practical regarding opportunities I'd already wondered about plus many more I'd never considered.  There is clarity in the immediate steps I'm now taking doing things that I enjoy plus I learned of many resources I hadn't known existed to look into during the coming weeks and months.  Now, I have the beginnings of a flexible, workable plan and the awareness that I really can create the life I want to live and have the means to support that life.

Hi Eileen,
What a great idea! It's fresh and new and definitely has a lot of potential. I've never heard of anyone doing anything like that. And my husband could help me with the business cards as we have a computer program for that. Yes, I would definitely have to get a portfolio put together. Hmmm......there are a lot of possibilities with this idea. Thanks so much for the suggestion. I will definitely think about it. :-)
