Starting A Home Business
By Eileen Hebert

Not only is it necessary to plan and research but you must stay alert being aware of potential dangers as well as opportunities.

You will need to be prepared for the slow times.  There may be times that you will not have a steady income.  This requires advance planning and a money management plan.

Those times will be much easier to get through if you have the support of others in your household.  Others will need to be ready for the financial adjustments necessary to maneuver through such trying times.  Without understanding and support from members of the household your business may not survive those slow times.  Or worse than that, relationships could be damaged.

Having a home business is not always glamorous.  You may find it necessary to work long hours and you may not get a day off on a regular basis.  But don’t despair this arrangement will only be temporary.  Over time you will find that you are able to adjust your schedule to meet the needs of yourself and those you love.

Eventually you will not only budget for regular time off you will even find that it is possible to take short vacations from the business.  Thanks to technology and the internet most home businesses can be run on autopilot for short periods of time.  And it is possible to actually run an internet based business from anywhere in the world – as long you have internet access.

Working at home requires one to be self-motivated.  No one else will be there to remind you when it’s time to start working.  You will need to find a location in the home that provides some control over noise and family interruptions.  It may be necessary to make some changes in the home environment in order to provide a positive and inspiring work environment.

Planning ahead can go along way toward ensuring the success of a home business.  Developing a business plan is not just paperwork.  This is a blueprint for the success of a business.  By planning your business the risk is greatly minimized.

A good suggestion is to create a business plan that contains both long and short-term goals.  List all assets that are currently available to you and also list any purchases you need to make.  Always be budget conscious.  A wise business owner will plan for purchases and keep spur of the moment decisions and purchases to a minimum.  It truly is possible to take most of the risk out of starting a home business.

Eileen,
I really enjoyed our session. All the ideas you had for me will defiantly help my business grow and establish me as an expert in my field. You have really encouraged me and inspired me to be creative and to think of so many ways I can generate more business. I have already used one of the ideas you gave me and am working on so many more. This past holiday weekend we had the best week at the store since it has opened and I know it is a direct cause of applying what we discussed.  I would definitely encourage anyone who needs some great advice and direction to work with you.  Please use my testimonial to encourage others. Thank you for your help.

Dear Eileen,
More was gained from my 90 minute consultation than from years of wading and wandering through the available information attempting to find a plan.  I felt understood as a unique individual.  The information and ideas learned were both inspiring and practical regarding opportunities I'd already wondered about plus many more I'd never considered.  There is clarity in the immediate steps I'm now taking doing things that I enjoy plus I learned of many resources I hadn't known existed to look into during the coming weeks and months.  Now, I have the beginnings of a flexible, workable plan and the awareness that I really can create the life I want to live and have the means to support that life.

Hi Eileen,
What a great idea! It's fresh and new and definitely has a lot of potential. I've never heard of anyone doing anything like that. And my husband could help me with the business cards as we have a computer program for that. Yes, I would definitely have to get a portfolio put together. Hmmm......there are a lot of possibilities with this idea. Thanks so much for the suggestion. I will definitely think about it. :-)
